Use this page to search the online Forum for existing messages. This is very useful as thousands of previously written messages are already in the forum for immediate access.
Here is where you enter the criteria for your search. As you can see you have a number of criteria available to you. The more criteria you fill in the smaller the resulting set (narrower search) of messages. The less you fill in the bigger your result set (broader search).
Note: As of this writing only the top 100 matches (maximum) are returned.
Msg Search ID From -- Every message is assigned an ID number. You can search by beginning ID number here.
To -- The Msg Search ID "To" number (larger the number the more recent the message) to search to.
Msg Search From Name -- The name of the message author (who wrote the message).
EMail -- The e-mail address of the message author (who wrote the message).
Msg Search Subject -- The Subject of the message ( a key word in the subject line).
Msg Search Date From -- The message "From Date" or the earliest date to search from. All messages on or after this date will be included.
To (Msg Search Date To) -- The message "To Date" or the latest date to search to. All messages before or on this date will be included.
Msg Search Keyword -- Enter a "key" or important word(s) to search for in the actual body (message text) of the message.
Search Command Button -- When you press or click on this button you will begin the actual search. The picture above shows a typical result set.
Get Msg Match Command Button
-- When you click on this button you will retrieve the actual message text of the highlighted message (row). In the picture above it would be the first message.
In the large list box area you will see a list of matching message "headers". Only the "header" information is returned at this time. To see the actual text of the corresponding message header you can either double click on the list of messages (after you have highlighted a row) or press the "Get Msg Match" command button.
Note: After selecting a message header by either double clicking on the list box or pressing the "Get Msg Match" button, you will be automatically taken to the "Read Messages" tab where the full text of the message is displayed. At this point you will also have the option of replying to the selected message if you wish to do so.
Status Line: At the bottom of the page frame and just above the Copyright notice is the Status line. System messages will appear here as you use VIM. Keep an eye there as it will present a lot of valuable information as you use VIM.
